Song of the day “Slow it down” The Lumineers

You know how sometimes you wake in the morning with a song in your head that plays on repeat? Well, that was the case with me this morning! And it was a good one…which is awesome because there is nothing worse that getting a really sucky song stuck in your head (like “I’m an Indian outlaw” or “This is the song that never ends”…yeah, sorry about that), but my song of the morning is “Slow it down” by The Lumineers.

I guess since its Christmas Eve and all, I do wish sometimes we could just slow everything down because it feels like we’re just fast forwarding through our lives. The Lumineers self titled album is truly a treat for my ears. If features very raw sound and poetic lyrics. I love the entire album, but I’m particularly found of “Slow it down” it’s a beautiful song and show cases singer Wesley Schultz powerful and pure vocals. I’m not entirely sure what the song is about, but give it a listen and let me know your thoughts.

I highly recommend that you give the Lumineers a listen. Check out their album on Amazon here.

Song of the day “Easy” Mandolin Orange

It’s “easy” to fall in love with Mandolin Orange. While some of their tunes lean a bit more toward country than I usually enjoy, I have thou raggedy enjoyed listening to “easy” and “wee bird” from their album, Quiet Little Room. The mandolin used through the music gives a beautiful full sound and an ethereal beauty to their music, add to that the amazing harmonies by the vocalist and you have some sweet, soulful tunes……perfect for Sunday Morning listening.

Today’s Obsession * Radical Face

So, you know how occasionally you come across an amazing song that you can’t help but listen to over and over? Well, my most recent obsessive song is “Welcome Home” by Radical Face. It sounds amazing through earbuds or blaring in the car and feels like I’m listening to my own personal life soundtrack. I love the progression and the builds and it has awesome lyrics as well:

Sleep don’t visit, so I choke on sun

And the days blur into one

And the backs of my eyes hum with things I’ve never done

Sheets are swaying from an old clothesline

Like a row of captured ghosts over old dead grass

Was never much but we made the most

Welcome home

Ships are launching from my chest

Some have names but most do not

If you find one, please let me know what piece I’ve lost

Heal the scars from off my back

I don’t need them anymore

You can throw them out or keep them in your mason jars

I’ve come home

All my nightmares escaped my head

Bar the door, please don’t let them in

You were never supposed to leave

Now my head’s splitting at the seams

And I don’t know if I can

Here, beneath my lungs, I feel your thumbs press into my skin again (lyrics courtesy of

I highly recommend that you check out the album Ghost and The Roots by Radical Face. I’m also loving Always Gold on The Roots album.
